Keeping on Track

Academic Advising

Honors College faculty provide student advising services for all years in the students' undergraduate program.

First-semester course planning is typically accomplished during orientation week (the week before the start of new students' first fall semester).

Freshman advising is then available during the fall and into spring semester. Honors faculty advisors help first-year students map their Honors academic plans and visit with students about such topics as foreign language studies, and study abroad and thesis plans.

Sophomore advising is typically done in group meetings.

By students' junior year, most students will have certified into a major and have an advisor in that college to plan progress toward a degree.  Honors faculty advisors work closely with major advisors, and are available for students in their junior as well as senior years at college.

Thesis Advising

Students select faculty mentors to be their thesis advisors. Typically, these will be professors from the student's major or the field on which the thesis is focused. The thesis advisor works closely with the Honors College thesis director and follows uniform guidelines.
