Becoming an Honors Student
The application process for Fall 2008 is now closed. Applications for Fall 2009 will be accepted when the WSU application becomes available.
All students who have shown outstanding motivation, scholastic ability, and intellectual achievement in academics, in addition to extracurricular and community involvement, are encouraged to apply to the Honors College at Washington State University.
The college welcomes those from diverse cultural and academic backgrounds.
You must apply to WSU or be a current student to begin the application process for the Honors College. And,
You must receive an offer of admission to WSU, or already be a WSU student, to be offered admission to the Honors College.
Admissions Criteria
A selection committee considers many factors regarding each applicant's admission to the Honors College ...
- Grade Point Average
- SAT/ACT scores (incoming freshmen only)
- Essay responses
- Strength of high school or college course work
- Running Start credits, AP/IB programs, Honors courses
- Level of competency in a foreign language
- Letters of recommendation from two teachers—one from a math or science teacher, and one from an English teacher.
- Overall motivation, organizational skills, and desire to challenge yourself
Please Note that ...
- Acceptance into the Honors College is competitive and spaces are limited.
- Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, Running Start, and transfer credits are considered for acceptance; evaluations are done on a case-by-case basis by the WSU Office of Admissions.
- The Honors College does not require an extra application fee to apply or to participate.
- Your application to WSU must be submitted before you will be able to apply online to the Honors College.
- You must be offered admission to WSU before you can be accepted into the Honors College.

Important Dates
November 1: For early notification, this is the deadline to complete the online Honors application.
January 31: The priority application deadline for the Honors College is the last day of January; applications submitted after that will be considered on a space-available basis.
January 31: WSU's priority date for scholarships.
