Priorities for Funding

Private Support Opens Worlds of Opportunities

The impact of private support to our programs makes a signficant difference for all of Honors' students, faculty, and staff.

There are many ways to give and many needs to fill. Every gift does make a difference.

Gifts from alumni, parents, and friends of the Honors College can support these important areas, identified as key initiatives for the college...

Scholarships for students.  Private funding helps to recruit, retain through graduation, and reward Honors' top scholars. Funds for these awards came from endowment earnings as well as from one-time contributions. As the general cost of a college education continues to rise, scholarship support will become more critical than ever to reach a broad and diverse set of students.

Scholarships will fall into four categories...

Honors College Distinguished International Lectureship. This new initiative will enable the Honors College to bring world-class lecturers to campus for presentations and seminars that engage students and faculty on topics of national and global significance. It is important for Honors students to personally interact with such renowned experts from academia and beyond to gain a sense of the value and possibility of critically engaging the world.

Honors Distinguished Professorship. This new professorship will help recognize an exceptional faculty member from any field who teaches in Honors. This professor will specially engage in the activities of the college and will contribute to the breadth and depth of the curriculum, helping to advance the goal of offering the best undergraduate education at a research university.

Honors College International Faculty Seminars. Modeled after the Fulbright International Seminars, these intensive study experiences will provide opportunities for more Honors faculty to engage in learning experiences that will enhance the global teaching and learning mission of the college. They will share their international experiences with students, colleagues, and the university community.

Honors College Commemorative Tile Campaign.  For many years, donors have recognized the achievements of Honors graduates by purchasing special engraved tiles and plaques. They are permanently displayed in the Honors Hall Lounge. Parents have created tiles to honor their children, and some alumni purchase tiles for another graduate.
