Honors Student Rebecka Bence Selected for Summer Fellowship at Wood Hole Oceanographic Institute

Congratulations to Rebecka Bence, who has been selected this summer for the Summer Student Fellowship (SSF) program at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute. The SSF program provides the opportunity for undergraduates to complete a research project under the mentorship of scientific or senior technical staff in various departments of marine science and policy. As a participant in the SSF program, Rebecka will spend 10 weeks in Woods Hole Village, Massachusetts, near Cape Cod and Martha’s Vineyard working on aquaculture research.

April 2-4, 2016, Honors College students Alicia Hiemstra and Keesha Matz will give presentations at the Western Regional Honors Conference held at the University of California, Riverside, together with Honors College Professor Kim Andersen. The annual conference brings together Honors students and faculty from the Western U.S. for two intense days of presentations and conversations. PULLMAN, Wash.—At Washington State University’s largest-ever Showcase for Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities (SURCA) on March 28, 57 of the more than 235 students presenting just over 200 posters landed a total of 51 awards, announced Shelley Pressley, director of the Office of Undergraduate Research, event host. Of these 235 presenters 48 students are a part of the WSU Honors College.  Of the 57 students who won awards 12 were presented to Honors student.

Honors College student Angela Rocchi co-authors a paper titled “Perturbation of Critical Prolines in Gloeobacter violaceus Ligand-Gated Ion Channel (GLIC) Supports Conserved Gating Motions Among Cys-Loop Receptors” in the Journal of Biological Chemistry. With support from the Dean’s Notable Achievement Fund Angela was able to spend the summer at the University of Cambridge where her contributions to this work were made.

PULLMAN, Wash. — Of the 32 awards given by the Office of Undergraduate Research at Washington State University for the coming academic year, 12 recipients are in the Honors College.
