DESCRIPTION:Eileen Pollack is an award-winning author of fiction and nonfiction whose novel\, Breaking and Entering\, won the Grub Street National Book Prize and was a New York Times Editor’s Choice selection. She also is the author of Paradise\, New York\, a novel\, and two collections of short fiction. Her creative nonfiction includes Woman Walking Ahead: In Search of Catherine Weldon and Sitting Bull and The Only Woman in the Room: Why Science Is Still a Boys’ Club. She teaches in the Master of Fine Arts program at the University of Michigan. \nThis event is cosponsored by the Honors College and the English Club.

DESCRIPTION:Poetry and Practice: Perspectives on Medicine and Narrative\nPlease join us April 6th at 3:00 PM in the Honors Lounge for the symposium\, “Poetry and Practice: Perspectives on Medicine and Narrative.” Poet Katie Price will read from her work Sickly\, and discuss the problems medical narrative presents to those with chronic illness. Physician Judy Swanson will explore the connections between physical examination and artistic observation. Their presentations will be followed by a mediated conversation concerning the relevance of narrative\, art\, and poetics to medical practice.
