Honors Students to Present at 2016 Western Regional Honors Conference, University of California

April 2-4, 2016, Honors College students Alicia Hiemstra and Keesha Matz will give presentations at the Western Regional Honors Conference held at the University of California, Riverside, together with Honors College Professor Kim Andersen. The annual conference brings together Honors students and faculty from the Western U.S. for two intense days of presentations and conversations. The theme of the Conference is “Diversifying Honors: Innovation, Contribution, & Global Citizenship.”

Alice Hiemstra will present her work on “Beauty in Exemplary Women in Early China” in which she investigates the effects ‘beauty’ had on the lives of women as described in Chinese biographies. Keesha Matz will present her work on developing antiviral treatments for the devastating Nipah Virus in her presentation: “Nipah Virus: A global virus with deadly impacts.” Professor Andersen will discuss his work since 2000 with faculty-led trips to the Nordic countries and to the Iberian Peninsula.
