Paige Danielson Named to the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-America Second Team

Washington State University junior rower, Paige Danielson, has been named to the 2017-18 Google Cloud Women’s At-Large Academic All-America Second Team, selected by CoSIDA, the organization announced Thursday.

Paige DanielsonA native of St. Cloud, Minn., Danielson was named to the All-District 8 Team in May, which made her eligible for All-America honors.  The women’s at-large category includes student-athletes participating in bowling, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, rowing, skiing, swimming, tennis and water polo. Forty-five student-athletes from those sports are divided into three teams of 15 to make up the All-America First, Second and Third teams, as one of the first team honorees is also chosen as the Academic All-American of the Year.

Danielson has a 4.00 grade point average, is majoring in electrical engineering and is a member of the Honors College. She is a two-time Pac-12 All-Academic First Team honoree, CRCA Scholar-Athlete First Team honoree and CoSIDA/Google Cloud Academic All-District team recipient, picking up each of those accolades in both 2017 and 2018. Danielson was also honored in both 2017 and 2018 as the Elite 90 Award winner, given to the student-athlete with the highest GPA at each individual NCAA Championship.

Danielson is one of just five Pac-12 student-athletes to be named to one of the first two teams, and one of seven to any of the three teams. Stanford had two swimmers earn first team honors, including the Google Cloud Academic All-America Team Member of the Year, Katie Ledecky. Arizona State golfer, Roberta Liti, and Stanford water polo student-athlete, Makenzie Fischer, joined Danielson on the second team.

The only other Cougar rower to receive CoSIDA Academic All-America honors was Katie Dick in 2013, as she also picked up second team honors in her senior season. Dick was a three-time all-district honoree. Danielson becomes WSU’s 20th female student-athlete to be named to one of the three Academic All-America teams and the first since Rachael Doyle was named to the women’s soccer second team in the fall of 2013.

Danielson completed her third season with the varsity rowing team in May, as her varsity eight crew finished 14th at the NCAA Championships as the team took home 14th as well. Last season she was a member of the varsity eight crew that finished 13th at the 2017 NCAA Championships, and as a freshman she rowed with the varsity four crew, taking 15th as a boat and 12th as a team at the 2016 NCAA Championships.
