How do different credits transfer to WSU and the WSU Honors College?

NOTE: Students with an Associate’s degree (AA, AST, etc.) have satisfied the 200-level Honors College requirements: Honors 270, 280, and 290; and English 298.

WSU provides established course and credit equivalency resources online for AP tests, IB tests, and college coursework. Your advisors will use these established equivalencies to determine which requirements you’ve satisfied for your area(s) of study and/or university graduation requirements.

  • If you took AP or IB tests, you can use these charts to determine the kind and number of credits awarded for your work: AP IB

The WSU Honors College advisors assist students awarded with transfer credits in learning how their specific transferring coursework will integrate into the Honors College curriculum. We can arrange to discuss this during your prospective student meeting on campus or over the phone with an Honors College advisor.

If you’re thinking about joining the Honors College and are planning to transfer credits when you come to WSU, we are happy to work with you in advance to evaluate your coursework to date and plan your future courses so you know how it will transfer.

Transfer Applicants:

Admission process for transfer students interested in the Honors College:
  • Apply to WSU: https://apply.wsu.edu
  • Contact the Honors College to schedule an admissions appointment with an Honors College advisor. Since you may not be in Pullman, appointments can be conducted over the phone.
    • During this meeting, you will discuss your future plans and goals and what you are looking for in your college experience.
    • You will also discuss previous and current coursework and how it will transfer to satisfy requirements for the Honors College (coursework will also likely satisfy requirements for your area(s) of study). So, before your meeting, you will send your transcript as well as a list of current courses and courses you anticipate completing at your current institution before transferring.

*Generally, a 3.5 college GPA is required to join the Honors College.

Current WSU Students

Undergraduate students already enrolled at Washington State University may transfer to the WSU Honors College. Please note that Honors Students complete the Honors curriculum in lieu of UCORE to satisfy WSU general education requirements.

To apply, contact the Honors College to schedule an in-person admissions appointment with an Honors College advisor.

  • During this meeting, you will discuss your future plans and goals and what you are looking for in your college experience.
  • You will also discuss previous and current coursework and how it will transfer to satisfy some requirements for the Honors College (you may have also already satisfied some requirements for your area(s) of study).

*Generally, a 3.5 college GPA is required to join the Honors College. We recognize students in their first semester at WSU will not already have a WSU GPA, and they are also welcome to contact us.

Incoming Freshmen

You’re considered a freshman if you’re applying to WSU for the academic year immediately after graduating from high school or you haven’t attended college since high school graduation (even if you’re transferring credit).  Applicants in this category apply through the Honors freshman admissions process.
