PULLMAN, Wash.—The 30th annual Honors College Invited Lecture will be presented by Rachel Halverson at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, March 26, in the Honors Hall Lounge.

“Selected Memories, Selective Memories: Navigating German Culture in the 21st Century” is the title of her speech.  The presentation is open to the public at no charge.

Invited Lecture presenters are nominated by the students of the college through the Honors Student Advisory Council.

A member of the Honors faculty since 2000 and a college administrator in 2007-2008, Halverson is an associate professor of German in the Dept. of Foreign Languages and Cultures.  She was honored in November 2008 by becoming the first WSU educator to receive the prestigious Ray Verzasconi Northwest Postsecondary Teacher of the Year Award.  It is presented to outstanding professionals in foreign language education.

She helped with the recently approved Honors College curriculum revision, which now includes foreign language competency requirements for incoming students fall 2008 and beyond. She has also been a key team member organizing WSU’s Week of Remembrance for five years; affiliated with the Honors College, these events focus on the Holocaust and have featured guest speakers, films, musical performances, and numerous discussions.

Halverson received the WSU Honors College Faculty Award in 2002.
