Additional Honors Course Offerings for Spring 2009

PULLMAN, Wash.—The Washington State University Honors College has announced course suggestions for students in the program in spring 2009.

Attention freshmen and sophomores!   A 5th section of English 298 has been added for spring 2009.  It will be offered T,Th from 2:50-4:05 and taught by Kimberly Burwick.  Students in this section, as well as in section 2, will examine the American frontier experience through new lenses.

Attention students who need UH 330, UH 410, or UH 440 for spring 2009! The Honors College will make substitutions from the new curriculum for those of you who need UH 330, UH 410, or UH 440 in order to complete graduation requirements in Honors.

If you need UH 330, consider taking UH 370, “Global Issues in Social Sciences,” which will include contemporary topics such as slavery, sweatshops, hunger, health, genocide, and xenophobia. Richard King, Chair of Comparative Ethnics Studies, is the instructor.  TTH 9:10-10:25.

If you need UH 440, consider taking UH 380, “Music: Science, Art, and Healing,” which will examine the role of music in human evolution and the integral role it plays in various cultures, including the Minianka tribe of West Africa. Sheila Converse from the School of Music is the instructor. MWF 10:10-11:00.

If you need UH 410, consider taking UH 390, “Global Issues in the Sciences,” which will focus on contemporary global concerns such as climate change, infectious disease, renewable energy, and genetic engineering. Lori Carris, Plant Pathology, is the instructor. TTH 1:25-2:40.
