WSU Honors College Alumnus Lewis Lee Guest Speaker at December Commencement Ceremonies
PULLMAN, Wash.—Spokane entrepreneur Lewis C. Lee, managing partner of Lee and Hayes PLLC, an intellectual property law firm, will deliver the commencement address to graduates of the Washington State University Honors College on December 12 in Pullman.
“We are delighted that Lewis, who is one of our own Honors graduates, will be here to share his wisdom and insights with our newest graduates who are about to take their place in the world,” says Libby Walker, interim dean of the Honors College.
Lee graduated in 1988 with double majors in electrical engineering and business administration and a certificate in Honors. He earned his law degree in 1991 from George Washington University, and in 1994 co-founded with fellow Cougar Dan Hayes the law firm that also has offices in Seattle and Austin, and represents one quarter of the world’s top 20 U.S. patent recipients.
Nineteen Honors graduates and their families are expected to attend the special Honors Commencement ceremonies, where each student’s accomplishments are recognized and traditional Honors medallions are distributed.
The WSU Honors College currently enrolls more than 600 undergraduate students in Pullman, serving these high-achieving young scholars with small, discussion-based classes. A new curriculum, introduced to freshmen in fall 2008, has a focus on global awareness and participation, and includes a foreign language competency requirement. The Honors College will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2010. It is host to the 2009 Western Regional Honors Council for students, faculty, and staff from 126 universities in 13 western states.
