Honors College Students, Faculty, and Thesis Advisors Honored at WSU University College Awards Ceremony April 16
PULLMAN, Wash.—The accomplishments of seven Honors College students, one faculty member, and four faculty thesis advisors at Washington State University were among those celebrated at the sixth annual awards ceremony hosted by the University College on Tuesday April 16, 2013 in the Lewis Alumni Centre.
In addition to awards presented by the University College, four were made by the faculty Emeritus Society, and four by the Honors College.
“The University College at WSU cherishes this opportunity to recognize the outstanding academic achievements of undergraduates,” says Mary F. Wack, vice provost for undergraduate education and dean of the University College. “We are also pleased to honor our faculty and staff members who have gone above and beyond the call of duty to make a difference in the college careers of our students.”
The following awards were presented to these Honors College students, faculty, and staff:
From Undergraduate Research in the University College at WSU
The Norma C. Fuentes and Gary M. Kirk Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Research (a scholarship presented to four students total)
- Joshua Cruz, senior mathematics major in the Honors College, mentored by Bala Krishnamoorthy
- Alyssa Patrick, senior communications major in the Honors College, mentored by Peter Chilson
From Pre-Health Advising and STEM Education in the University College at WSU
Recognition of the Pre-Medical/Pre-Dental Applicant Advisory Committee (to nine facultytotal)
- Jessica Cassleman, assistant dean of the Honors College
From Writing Programs in the University College at WSU
Stanley P. Williams Award for Tutoring Leadership (to four people total)
- Beth Notturno, senior digital technology and culture major in the Honors College
Harold and Jeanne Rounds Olsen Award for Undergraduate Excellence in Writing (to 10 students total, recognizing the “best of the best” Junior Writing Portfolios submitted in the past year)
- Tristan Hanon, agricultural economics major; in the Honors College
- Tiffany Hylkema, molecular genetics and cell biology major; in the Honors College
- Josiah Wai, mechanical engineering major; in the Honors College
