Pullman, Wash.—According to recent awards announced by the Pac-10, Washington State University Honors student and Cougar wide receiver Jared Karstetter scored well both on the field and in the classroom during the fall 2009 football season.

His achievements landed him a spot on the 2009 Pac-10 All-Academic Second Team, as well as an honorable mention for the All-Pac-10 Team which was selected by 10 head coaches to recognize the best talent in the conference.

To qualify for the Pac-10 All-Academic teams, athletes must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average, and be a starter or significant substitute.  The Honors sophomore from Spokane has achieved a 3.49 grade-point average; he has not yet chosen a major.  Of the 18 WSU football players named to the academic teams (first, second, and honorable mention), Karstetter is the only student in Honors.  (WSU tied with Stanford University for the most selections in the conference.)

Karstetter is one of six WSU players named to the all-conference teams, and again, is the only one from Honors.

WSU fans should remember Karstetter as the player responsible for the 48-yard reception in the final minute of regulation at the 2008 Apple Cup, which set up the Cougars for a score-tying field goal.  WSU ultimately finished with a narrow 16-13 victory that year over the Huskies after a second overtime.
