Honors College’s Jessica Cassleman Receives WSU Outstanding Academic Advisor Award
PULLMAN, Wash.—Jessica Cassleman, assistant dean of the Washington State University Honors College, is being honored with the year’s Outstanding Achievement in Academic Advising Award, the WSU Academic Advising Association (ACADA) announced today. The awards are presented in three categories.
Cassleman received the top award among faculty who teach as well as advise students. Mark Brownell, from the College of Sciences, received the organization’s award for those whose primary role is to advise students. Jane Parker, assistant director of the Center for Advising and Career Development (CACD), a unit of the University College, received the top award for administrators who also advise students. All work at the Pullman
campus of WSU and will receive a plaque and $1,000 each for professional development. WSU ACADA awards committee chair Karla Makus made the award announcements, saying the group considered 30 nominees. “Please congratulate these outstanding individuals at our institution who are being recognized for their excellence in academic advising,” says Makus. This is the second year the WSU ACADA group has presented the awards.
Cassleman, Brownell, and Parker will be entered for national-level advising awards to be announced in fall at the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) conference. WSU ACADA is the primary organized group of professional and faculty advisors and student support personnel at WSU. It aims to increase advising effectiveness by strengthening communication on academic advising issues. WSU ACADA president is Lisa Laughter, also of CACD.
