WSU senior Ryan Summers finalist for Rhodes scholarship

PULLMAN, Wash.—Washington State University computer engineering, German, and Honors College student Ryan Summers interviewed Nov. 17-18 in Seattle as a finalist for the Rhodes Scholarship, arguably the oldest and best known of the prestigious scholarships available to American college graduates.

WSU has had 10 Rhodes Scholars from 1907 to 1956. Prior to Summers, the most recent finalist was in 1984. » More …

Lincoln, NE, October 12, 2017– Annie Lampman, Clinical Assistant Professor has been selected as a presenter during the 52nd annual conference to be held by the National Collegiate Honors Council in Atlanta, Georgia, November 8-12, 2017.

The conference highlights student and faculty research presentations from across the nation, and provides training and development for honors program administrators. The conference theme, “Just Honors”, will explore how the honors faculty and students can address the issues of access, equity and technology as key partners in the community.  Bryan Stevenson, Executive Director of the Equal Justice Initiative, and author of Just Mercy, will provide the plenary address. » More …

As a little girl, Walla Walla High School graduate Samantha Case was up early collecting eggs and feeding chickens on her family farm. Her efforts soon grew to a business where Case would sell eggs at the local farmer’s market and restaurants throughout the valley.

Samantha is now about to graduate from Washington State University with a double major and has been accepted to a prestigious master’s program at the University of Glasgow (Scotland) where she will specialize in information management and preservation. » More …

Honors Students Recognized with Research Awards

Thirteen Washington State University Honors College students have received awards from the Office of Undergraduate Research, part of WSU Undergraduate Education.

The Scott and Linda Carson Undergraduate Research Endowed Excellence Fund, established in 2013, supports researchers as they progress in their careers. The Carsons, who are WSU alumni, have supported the university with their service and numerous financial gifts. The Carson award is the first to give preference to student researchers who are in their junior and senior years.

WSU School of Music and Honors College alumnus Eric McElroy is currently a candidate for Birmingham Conservatoire’s Advanced Postgraduate Diploma. McElroy earned his Master’s degree at Musik und Kunst Privatuniversität der Stadt Wien with full honors.

On August 31 McElroy performed solo piano works by contemporary composers including his composition The Perilous Realm in Bryan Hall Theatre at the WSU Pullman campus, which won the prestigious MTNA National Young Artist Composition Competition. » More …
